Kitchen Noize

Kitchen Noize is an illustration series I created as a personal project. As an avid hip-hop fan, I wanted to create a series that showcased my research and exploration of the genre regionally. I consider the hip-hop genre a foundation of Black contemporary culture. It’s how many people tell stories, communicate, and experiment with sound and lyrics. Similarly, the kitchen of a home is where family and friends gather to cook, share, and congregate with one another.

I was inspired by the New Orleans based brand Rap Snacks, a brand of potato chips that highlight hip-hop artists and a flavor that somehow correlates with their music or background. I took survey of artists that stand as tastemakers for their hometown and music type, and correlated it with foods/kitchen items.
